8. “Enamorados” – A Tango Quintet in Siberia

Last year, during a Tangel Trio performance in Omsk, we received a wonderful surprise. A local Tango dancing academy attended our concert and actually danced to many of the songs we played. Out of our 40-concert tour, this only happened in Siberia (specifically Omsk and Irkutsk). Since Omsk was the first time it occurred, it left a huge impression on us.

After the show, we chatted with the crowd and ended up going on a late-night city tour with three of our new friends. We even wound up singing “Por una cabeza” together at a karaoke spot, the only bar still open!

That night sparked my friendship with Alina, a classical guitar player who leads a quintet playing Piazzolla and other tango classics.

Since I was already traveling to Ekaterinburg (which is “close” to Omsk by Russian standards), I contacted Alina to test the waters for a potential collaboration. Incredibly, she arranged a full concert within days.

On August 22nd, we’ll be performing together at a local venue that has a nice piano. I’m finalizing the repertoire now, and today is our first rehearsal!
